Story Contracting | Seaton South – Harringworth Viaduct Embankment Regrade

The Challenge

Story Contracting undertook essential works to regrade the embankment supporting the historic Harringworth Viaduct—one of the UK’s longest masonry railway structures. This complex infrastructure project involved stabilising the embankment, improving drainage, and upgrading cess walkways—all while maintaining the integrity of a live rail line.

We were commissioned to film the full scope of works, producing a professional construction video that would document progress, showcase technical delivery, and support future marketing and stakeholder engagement.

The Approach

To accurately capture the project in motion, we planned and executed four strategically timed filming visits, each aligned with a major phase of the works:

  • Visit One: Early excavation and vegetation clearance

  • Visit Two: Bulk regrading and installation of temporary access routes

  • Visit Three: Soil compaction, cess upgrades, and drainage works

  • Visit Four: Final surfacing, reinstatement, and completion shots

Our camera operator used the Canon R5 mirrorless camera with a range of prime and zoom lenses to record ground-level activity in sharp detail. This allowed us to highlight machine movements, team coordination, and construction techniques with a cinematic finish.

To provide broader visual context, we also flew the DJI Mini 4 Pro drone, capturing sweeping aerial views of the railway embankment, viaduct, and surrounding countryside. These dynamic perspectives helped illustrate the scale of the project and its setting within the wider rail network.

In post-production, we edited the footage into a concise and engaging short film. The final video included:

  • Clean motion graphics for titles and progress markers

  • On-brand music to set the tone

  • Text overlays for project context and site identification

This polished delivery ensured the film could be shared across multiple platforms while remaining accessible and informative.

The Result

The finished video delivered a clear and engaging narrative of the Seaton South embankment regrade, demonstrating how Story Contracting successfully managed a challenging programme of works in a safety-critical rail environment.

It is now used by the client for:

  • Marketing and social media (LinkedIn, YouTube)

  • Stakeholder briefings and internal communications

  • Tenders and capability presentations

Our combination of ground-level cinematography and drone filming helped bring the engineering story to life—capturing the complexity, coordination, and care required on a project of this scale.
