The Challenge
Network Rail (in partnership with SRSA and Lankhorst KLP) approached us to produce a video showcasing their Integrated Composite Sleeper, also known as the “Hedgehog” Sleeper. This video needed to effectively communicate the sleeper’s innovative features, its environmental benefits, and the story behind its development, all in a clear and engaging manner.
The Approach
Our goal was to combine interviews with visuals of the sleeper to create an engaging piece of media.
- Planning and Collaboration:
- Partnered with Network Rail to identify key themes: sustainability, engineering innovation, and operational efficiency.
- Designed a storyboard to outline the narrative structure and flow of the video.
- Filming Key Interviews:
- Conducted interviews with engineers, sustainability experts, and project leads to capture their insights and expertise.
- Utilised the Canon R5 mirrorless camera paired with a dynamic lighting setup to deliver high-quality footage that highlighted the professionalism and credibility of the speakers.
- Highlighting the Sleeper:
- Embedded supplied b-roll and stock footage of the sleeper, emphasising its unique recycled polymer and steel composition, integrated fastening system, and role in reducing embedded carbon.
- Post-Production:
- Edited the footage to create a cohesive and polished video. Added animations and graphics to illustrate key technical points and make the content more engaging.
- Subtitles and captions were incorporated for accessibility and clarity.
The Result
The video achieved its objectives, presenting the Hedgehog Sleeper as a breakthrough in sustainable railway technology. It highlighted its benefits, including reduced carbon footprint, enhanced durability, and simplified installation. The video resonated with stakeholders, becoming a valuable promotional and informational tool for Network Rail, reinforcing their reputation for innovation and commitment to sustainability.
