So you’ve decided to produce some engaging video for your brand or business- excellent! Effective video content can drive high audience engagement, help create an identifiable brand and even increase product sales. In fact, we’ve already written a piece on the effectiveness of video marketing- covering its numerous benefits.

However, we’re aware that not every business has the luxury of a huge budget for video creation, and in many cases sticking to a tight budget is necessary. But fear not- in this post we’ll explain how you can make effective and engaging video content on a budget.

Properly Plan

Many businesses attempt to rush through pre-production when it comes to video production for fear of allocating too much time and budget to it. However when effectively done pre-production can actually save time and money in the long run when it comes to video production.

Creating final storyboards and scripts ahead of time will lead to more refined production schedule. This will help reduce the chances of staff having to carry out reshoots and script changes mid production. Effective pre-production will also allow everyone to properly proof a video concept at the first instance. This means staff will have a real vision for how the final project will look and less content and script changes will be required down the line.

If using an external film company, you should try to work on pre-production within your business where possible. This will ensure that pre-production doesn’t eat into your businesses overall film budget as much. For example, you should try create and proof your video concept in house. If you have the resources and available staff, you should also try write your video script in-house. Even if your chosen film crew suggests and implants changes to these down the line, it will still be far cheaper and more budget friendly than starting empty handed.

Create a fit-for-purpose video concept

As discussed in the above point, proper planning is a very effective way to known down video costs. Creating a fit-for-purpose video concept for a your video is arguably one of the most important parts of this. Not only should you make considerations for your videos’ intended audience to gauge how effective your concept will be, but you’ll also need to ensure that the concept is feasible within your video project’s budget.

This should include calculating all expenses ahead of time, including the cost of all labour for pre-production work, shooting days, estimated editing time along with any extras such as fuel costs, any extra equipment or actors (if applicable).

So if using a smaller budget.

Thoroughly examining your video concept will help ensure its success once materialised.
